Installing FieldKo from the AppExchange

Step-by-step install of FieldKo in your Salesforce org

Updated over a week ago

Installing FieldKo involves adding the FieldKo managed package or application to your Salesforce org and ensuring it’s properly set up for your users. This article walks Salesforce admins through prerequisites, the installation process, and post-install configuration steps.

Prerequisites and Considerations

  • Salesforce Edition: Verify that your Salesforce edition supports installing AppExchange packages (most standard editions do). Ensure you have the System Administrator profile or equivalent permissions for installation.

  • Credentials: Obtain the FieldKo installation link or AppExchange listing from FieldKo. You may need a password or to be a licensed customer to access the package.

  • Planning: Decide whether to install directly in Production or in a Sandbox first for testing. It’s best practice to test in a Sandbox environment if available.

  • User Licences: Ensure you have enough Salesforce user licences for all FieldKo users (or FieldKo-specific licences if provided). Each user who will log into FieldKo must have a Salesforce user licence and be added to the FieldKo package license after installation.

Note: FieldKo is built natively on the Salesforce Lightning Platform. This means installation and security follow Salesforce’s standard model, and no external servers are needed. All data is stored in your Salesforce org, benefiting from Salesforce’s reliability and security.

Installation Steps

  1. Access the Package: Log in to Salesforce as an admin. Navigate to the FieldKo AppExchange listing or use the installation URL provided by FieldKo.

  2. Begin Installation: Click Get It Now (AppExchange) or open the installation link. If prompted, choose Install in Production or Install in Sandbox depending on your environment. Log in with your Salesforce credentials if required.

  3. Security Confirmation: Salesforce may display information about the package’s components and require acknowledgement of third-party access. Review the details and check the acknowledgment box if prompted.

  4. Select Install Users: Choose the security level for the install. You can install for Admins Only, All Users, or Specific Profiles. It’s common to start with Admins Only, which restricts access until you assign permissions later. (You will assign FieldKo permission sets to users in a later step, so installing for Admins Only is a safe choice initially.)

  5. Complete Installation: Click Install. The package will begin installing. This may take a few minutes. You’ll see a confirmation when complete. If the package includes a post-install script or setup wizard, allow it to run.

  6. Post-Install Confirmation: After installation, verify that the FieldKo package is listed under Installed Packages in Setup. You should see “FieldKo” in the installed packages list.

Tip: You can access Installed Packages by going to Setup and entering "Installed Packages" in Quick Find. There, you’ll see FieldKo listed with a version number. This confirms a successful installation.

Post-Installation Tasks

  • Assign Package Licences: If FieldKo is a licensed managed package, assign licences to your users. In Salesforce Setup, go to Installed Packages, find FieldKo, and click Manage Licenses. From there, add the users who will use FieldKo. This ensures each user has access to the FieldKo package features.

  • FieldKo App Visibility: FieldKo may come with a Lightning app (for example, “FieldKo App”). Check the App Launcher (the 9-dot menu in Lightning) for the FieldKo app. If you installed for Admins Only, regular users won’t see it until you assign permissions. As an admin, you should open the FieldKo app to confirm it loads. You might see standard tabs such as Accounts, Visits, Tasks, Surveys, FieldKo Settings, etc., as part of the FieldKo app.

  • Verify Installation with a Test Login: Try logging in as a test FieldKo user (or your own non-admin user account) to see if the FieldKo app is accessible. Initially, without permissions assigned, the user may not see any FieldKo tabs – that is expected until you set up profiles or permission sets (covered in the next articles).

Note: FieldKo is a Salesforce-native solution, so it leverages Salesforce’s cloud infrastructure fully. There are no separate servers to install or manage. Once installed, all administration is done within Salesforce Setup or the FieldKo app UI.

With FieldKo now installed, you’re ready to manage users and permissions for the application. Continue to User Management to add your field team users and give them access to FieldKo.
