# Install the FieldKo Atlas App

> Check device requirements, then install and update the FieldKo Atlas app on iOS or Android.

Use this page to install the FieldKo Atlas app on your phone or tablet and keep it up to date. The FieldKo Atlas app is how you plan and run visits in the field. After you install it, [log in](/getting-started/sign-in).

## Before You Begin

Make sure your device meets these requirements.

| Requirement | iOS and iPadOS | Android |
| - | - | - |
| Minimum OS | iOS 17.0 | Android 12 (API 31) |
| Devices | iPhone and iPad | Phones and tablets |
| Orientation | Portrait and landscape | Portrait and landscape |

You also need:

* **A Salesforce user in an org that has FieldKo set up.** Your Salesforce admin sets this up. If you don't have a Salesforce username yet, ask your admin for one.

The app appears on your device as **FieldKo Atlas**. If your company asked you to test a new version before it's released, see [Test New Versions of the App](/mobile-testing/test-new-versions) instead. Next, [log in and set up the app](/getting-started/sign-in).

## Update the App

<Warning>
  **Sync before you update or reinstall.** Uninstalling deletes the app's offline data, including anything that hasn't synced. Android doesn't restore FieldKo data from a device backup. To check that nothing is waiting to upload, in the side menu, tap **Sync**, and make sure **Pending Changes** shows 0 records and 0 images. See [Sync Your Data](/sync/sync-screen).
</Warning>

* **iOS:** Updates arrive through the App Store, like any other app. To update now, open [FieldKo Atlas on the App Store](https://apps.apple.com/us/app/fieldko-atlas/id1605506891) and tap **Update**.
* **Android:** Updates arrive through Google Play, like any other app. To update now, open [FieldKo Atlas on Google Play](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.fieldko.reactnative) and tap **Update**.

To see what changed in each version, see [FieldKo Atlas Release Notes](/release-notes/fieldko-atlas).

## Check Your App Version

The app version appears at the bottom of the side menu (for example, **v1.0.68**).

Your admin can change the version label that the menu shows. If support asks for your exact build, check it in one of these places instead:

* **Android:** In your device settings, go to **Settings → Apps → FieldKo Atlas**.
* **iOS:** In your device settings, go to **Settings → General → iPhone Storage** (or **iPad Storage**) **→ FieldKo Atlas**. The version is shown at the top.

## Permissions the App Asks For

The app asks for these permissions the first time it needs them.

| Permission | Why the App Needs It | When You're Asked |
| - | - | - |
| Location (while using the app) | Records your check-in and check-out location, shows you on the map, and logs your location when you sync | Your first check-in, when you open the map, or when you start a sync |
| Camera | Takes photos for surveys, records, and Smart Camera | The first time you take a photo |
| Photo library (iOS) | Lets you choose existing photos and save photos | The first time you pick or save a photo |
| Notifications | Sends visit check-in and check-out reminders | iOS: at first launch, before you log in. Android 13 and later: after setup, only if your company has reminders turned on. |
| App tracking (iOS only) | Improves visit planning and routing | Once, after the home screen first loads |
| Alarms & reminders (Android) | Lets reminders arrive when the app is closed or the device is locked | When you turn it on from **Settings** in the app |

Android uses the system photo picker and doesn't need the photo library permission.

If you denied a permission, turn it back on in your device's system settings under **FieldKo Atlas**.
